Jessica Johns is a contender for Canada Reads 2024, for her horror-infused novel BAD CREE, which “centres around a young woman named Mackenzie, who is haunted by terrifying nightmares and wracked with guilt about her sister Sabrina's untimely death.”
BAD CREE is championed by Dallas Soonias, “a former star player on the Canadian national men's volleyball team and a current contributor for CBC Sports. Hailing from Saskatoon, he is Cree/Anishinaabe and registered with the the Chippewas of Nawash...He actively promotes a more inclusive environment for Indigenous athletes and students.”
The debates will take place March 4-7 on CBC TV, CBC Radio and CBC Books.
