We are so thrilled to welcome Grant Gilchrist to CookeMcDermid! He is represented by Ron Eckel.
Grant Gilchrist is a Canadian scientist who has researched polar seabirds in the Arctic and west Greenland for over 35 years. Throughout his career, Grant has led collaborative teams of university professors and graduate students, government scientists, industrial partners, and Inuit communities to address pressing wildlife conservation issues in the north - many of which were unforeseen. His research has provided new insights into seabird foraging ecology, reproduction, migration, winter distribution, and how Arctic seabirds are affected by increasing polar bear predation, emerging wildlife diseases, and changing climate. Several of his projects have also focused on the harvest of seabirds by Inuit, to ensure that Indigenous priorities were valued in modern conservation and management strategies. During more than three decades of living and working in the Arctic, Grant has witnessed dramatic biological and social changes driven by climate change. Drawing on his personal, hand-written journal entries, the events of his polar expeditions, and the discoveries contained in more than 250 of his scientific publications, he is now dedicating his writing and public speaking efforts to educate the public more broadly about ongoing environmental change in the Arctic.
