Chieri Uegaki

Chieri Uegaki is a second generation Japanese-Canadian and award-winning picture book author. She graduated from the University of British Columbia’s Creative Writing Department with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and has written stories for Pearson Education and the children’s magazines Chirp and chickaDEE.

Chieri Uegaki is a second generation Japanese-Canadian and award-winning picture book author. She graduated from the University of British Columbia’s Creative Writing Department with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and has written stories for Pearson Education and the children’s magazines Chirp and chickaDEE. Her celebrated picture books, published by KidsCan Press, include Suki’s Kimono, Hana Hashimoto, Sixth Violin (which won the Ezra Jack Keats Book Award for New Writer) and most recently, Ojiichan’s Gift (a Junior Library Guild Spring 2019 Gold Standard Selection Award winner, selected by Kirkus and the CCBC as a Best Picture Book of the Year, and shortlisted for the 2021 Chocolate Lily Award). She lives on the Sunshine Coast with her husband and dog and is working on her first young adult novel.
