Kagiso Lesego Molope is a novelist and a playwright. In 2021 she was shortlisted for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, and was on the IBBY Honour List in 2006 for her first novel, DANCING IN THE DUST.

In 2021 she was shortlisted for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, and was on the IBBY Honour List in 2006 for her first novel, DANCING IN THE DUST. In 2014 she became the first Indigenous South African to receive the Percy Fitzpatrick Award for Youth Literature in Southern Africa. She is also the recipient of the 2019 Ottawa Book Award and the 2019 Inaugural Pius Adesanmi Memorial Award for Excellence in African Writing. Kagiso was on the Globe and Mail Best 100 list, received a Kirkus Star review, and had two books on CBC’s Best Books of the Year List, with THIS BOOK BETRAYS MY BROTHER selected as a Top YA Pick.

Her books are read in middle and high schools across Southern Africa and in parts of Europe, and her play, Maya Angelou: Black Woman Rising, will have its second run at Oslo’s Nordic Black Theatre in October 2021.
