Del Rey Books Acquires New Novel and Backlist From Karen Lord

Tricia Narwani, Editor-in-Chief at Del Rey Books, has acquired North American rights to THE BLUE, BEAUTIFUL WORLD, and reprint rights to REDEMPTION IN INDIGO and UNRAVELING by Karen Lord. The deal for Lord’s innovative and acclaimed works was arranged by Sally Harding at CookeMcDermid Literary Agency. Del Rey will also reissue the author’s backlist classics, The Best of All Possible Worlds and The Galaxy Game, in Summer 2023.

THE BLUE, BEAUTIFUL WORLD, to be published on August 29, 2023, is a wondrous science fiction epic about a group of gifted visionaries who race to imagine a new future when first contact transforms the Earth.

In 2024, Del Rey will publish REDEMPTION IN INDIGO and UNRAVELING: a pair of loosely linked fantasy novels inspired by the folklore of the Caribbean. Like all of Lord’s work, they re-examine our world, and re-imagine our future, through the lens of speculative fiction, and through the shimmer of a specifically post-colonial and Caribbean vision.
