CMD Welcomes Amber Boyd
We are thrilled to welcome Amber Boyd to CookeMcDermid!
Amber holds a Creative Writing Certificate from the University of Calgary Faculty of Continuing Education and is currently attending the University of British Columbia, working towards an MFA in creative writing. In 2021, she won a spot in the Audible Indigenous Writers’ Circle program with her essay “Picking Up the Crumbs,” which then made the shortlist for The Malahat Review’s 2021 Constance Rooke CNF Prize. In April 2022, she joined the University of Calgary Faculty of Continuing Education creative writing instructor team for a term as an Indigenous Writing Instructor for their Writing 500 course. When she’s not writing, she paints, beads, and creates works of art. Her painting, “A Reason to Celebrate,” was displayed in the Indigenous Motherhood and Matriarchy curated art show, and her tapestry “Remnants” was part of the From the Land: Indigenous Ecological Art for a New Era exhibit. In the recent Mino-Pimatisiwin: Reclaiming the Good Life photography exhibition, her photographs, “Métis Medicines” and “Learning to Bead,” were displayed at the Grand in downtown Calgary as part of the curated collection.
Amber is the Executive Director of a national Indigenous-led charity where she organizes scholarship opportunities for Indigenous high school students to work with university professors in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math. She assists the Indigenous Editors Association on their initiatives in her spare time and currently sits on their board of directors.
Amber is represented by Rachel Letofsky.
