Elamin Abdelmahmoud's SON OF ELSEWHERE to Ballantine
Ballantine’s Sara Weiss has acquired US rights to Elamin Abdelmahmoud's SON OF ELSEWHERE, a collection of personal essays about what happens when you spend years running away from an identity or an idea about yourself, only to run into it head-first at the finish line of adolescence, grappling with notions of belonging, blackness, masculinity, and Muslim-ness (and the mystique of The OC) from the point of view of someone who immigrated from Sudan to Canada as a child, one year before 9/11, in a pre-empt, for publication in May 2022, by Martha Webb at CookeMcDermid. Canada English rights previously sold to Jared Bland at McClelland & Stewart.
